We are delighted to share that Charnwood Borough Council have approved our planning application for a battery storage system near Loughborough.
George Wilyman, Head of UK Planning at Aura Power said “We are extremely pleased to have received planning permission for the battery storage development. The team at Aura Power have worked proactively with the local planning authority and we look forward to constructing a well considered scheme, which is complementary to its surroundings.”
Labour have pledged to hire 300 new planning officers across the country to help alleviate the lack of resources in planning authorities and speed up decisions on critical infrastructure to accelerate the energy transition and reach net zero targets.
The battery storage system will be located on land adjacent to the A6 between Hathern and Kegworth, covering a total area of around 5 acres.
Battery storage systems are a critical part of the energy transition as they store energy at times of low demand and discharge energy back onto the electricity grid when it is needed the most. This enables more renewable energy sources to generate electricity and the battery storage systems can stabilise the grid to ensure electricity is readily available when the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing.
This battery storage system is predicted to save over 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere each year, compared with a typical gas peaking plant. The project also includes landscaping proposals which offer screening from the adjacent road and a biodiversity net gain of 18.4%.
Aura Power is developing a battery storage pipeline in the UK of around 2 GW supplementary to their solar pv pipeline of around 1.5 GWp.
Construction is expected to commence towards the end of 2027 with a connection date currently scheduled for 2028.
