The company’s entry into Germany brings Aura Power’s portfolio to cover 10 countries across Europe and North America.

Bastian Dittrich joins Aura Power as Head of Development with over 20 years of experience in the renewables sector in Germany and worldwide. He said “I am delighted to join the Aura team to help deliver my Country’s ambitious renewable energy goals. It is an exciting time for renewables in Germany at the moment, particularly with the closure of the last three nuclear plants and the recognition to massively ramp up electricity production from solar and wind. Our focus will be predominantly to develop utility scale battery energy storage systems to support the faster rollout of renewables coming onto the grid.”.

Germany plans to multiply its renewable capacity 5 times by 2045 with 300 GW of solar PV and 30 GW of offshore wind planned until 2030. Currently there is around 7GW installed storage; 1GW from batteries and 6 GW from pumped storage. The required storage based on the increase of solar PV and wind is 180 GW; 25 times more than the current amount.

Simon Coulson, CEO of Aura Power said “Battery energy storage systems are crucial in allowing countries to fully transition to a net zero future. We have a tried and tested business model, with proven ability to move quickly into new European markets as seen by our expansion into Lithuania, Italy and Spain over the last 2 years. We are experienced in influencing regulatory change to support battery development and are excited about the opportunities in Germany. Entering this market has been part of our business plan for some time and builds on our ambition to become one of the leading European BESS developers.”

Aura Power intends to develop over 2GW of battery energy storage in Germany by 2030. They have successfully delivered over 0.5 GW of battery storage projects with over 20 GW of solar and battery storage projects currently in development.

The company currently employs 50 people, having almost doubled in size since 2020 and continues to grow, inline with their impressive pipeline.
